Magic Mike's award is no illusion

by isleofman.com 7th July 2010

KIRK Michael magician Mike Clague has received an award from the The Magic Circle, the world’s most prestigious magic society.

The President’s Certificate is an award for services to the magic art. It was presented on Saturday on behalf of President Jack Delvin by Paul Martin, chairman of the Magicians of Mann, and, like Mike, a member of The Magic Circle.

Paul said: "Mike has studied and performed magic for most of his life, and has been secretary of the Magicians of Mann for 16 years.

"He started the Young Magicians of Mann in 1987 and continues to run the well-known club which meets at Douglas Youth Centre and regularly stages shows.

"One of its members, Lexi Watterson, gained third place in The Magic Circle’s Young Magician of the Year competition in 2007. Members aged 11 to 18 also perform amazing magic at summer fairs.

"The Magic Circle has only recently established this award and I believe Mike is it’s first recipient.”

Mike, who recently retired as youth and community adviser with the Department of Education and Children said: "The award came as complete surprise, and I’m overwhelmed to be honest – it’s great to be recognised by the President of The Magic Circle for doing something which has been so much fun."
