Former Labour MP Andrew MacKinlay says the Island has learned valuable lessons from its battle with the UK over the Reciprocal Health Agreement.
Mr McKinlay campaigned tirelessly in Westminster to save the Agreement and was invited to Tynwald Day this week.
Yesteray (Tuesday) he was the guest of Manx service veterans, who were encouraged by Mr MacKinlay to mount their own lobby.
They wanted to say their own 'thank you' to him, for keeping-up the pressure.
Mr MacKinlay said he was proud to have helped the Island save the Agreement - and paid tribute to the efforts of the veterans.
At the gathering in the Legion Hall in Douglas, he said lessons have been learned on all sides.
