by isleofman.com 5th July 2010

Police have released further details of criminal charges against a member of the Island's clergy.

At the weekend, Manx Radio reported the vicar of Maughold Canon David Green, faced a series of theft charges.

A statement from police has today (Monday) confirmed the 55-year old has been charged with eight counts of theft and 10 of false accounting.

It follows an investigation into alleged financial improprieties involving Maughold Burial Authority, the village Parochial Church Council and the Diocese of Sodor and Man.

Canon Green was suspended from his post last year when the investigation came to light.

He's been bailed to appear before the Deputy High Bailiff on August 3.
