Three petitions for redress presented at Tynwald

by isleofman.com 5th July 2010

The ancient custom of presenting Petitions for Redress of Grievance at Tynwald Day has been observed again today (Monday).

Three petitions were handed over to the Clerk of Tynwald Roger Phillips.

The grievances this year concern the rights of freeholders in sheltered accommodation, the access that private and NHS patients have to complaints procedures and the way the legal aid system works in the Isle of Man.

In each case the complainants felt they had exhausted every other avenue in trying to resolve their issues and believed the petition process was a way of taking their grievance further.

It now remains to be seen if any of the petitions are picked up by a member of Tynwald, at which point there could be a select committee inquiry or ultimately even changes made to legislation.
