New arrivals at the Wildlife Park

by isleofman.com 4th July 2010

PYGMY marmosets, the smallest monkeys in the world, can now be seen at the Curraghs Wildlife Park in Ballaugh.

Two pairs of pygmy marmosets, made up from animals from Belfast and Edinburgh Zoos, are on show in The Ark in the centre of the Wildlife Park.

With the onset of early summer the park has seen a number of new arrivals in the various exhibits.

Notable births and hatchings recorded so far this year include baby maras in the pampas exhibit - which are otherwise known as Patagonian cavies and look like a cross between a hare and a small deer - a demoiselle crane in the Asian Swamp being reared by its parents and a white stork in the European Marsh section.

The newly arrived meerkats, which went on show on Saturday, May 29, are enjoying the sunshine and are very active in their enclosure, enchanting and delighting the many visitors that have come to see them.
