by isleofman.com 4th July 2010

THE Isle of Man Arts Council has brought its Manx Music Season back to the Villa Marina Arcade for a second year.

It is the fourth Manx Music Season and this year’s line up is as diverse as ever, covering everything from traditional Manx tunes to contemporary work, drawing on the wealth of Celtic and folk music.

The season kicked off on July 1 with Perree Bane, one of the largest traditional dance groups in the Isle of Man, and Christa McCartney, a charismatic harpist and singer.

The next event is on Friday (July 9).

There will then be performances on July 22 and 29 and August 5, 12, 19 and 26 - with a different line up each week.

Development Manager for Community, Culture and Arts Emma Callin said: "We are very pleased to hold another Manx Music Season which appeals to visitors and residents alike.

"We have such a wealth of local groups keeping traditional music alive, this is a great opportunity to see some of our best home grown talent for free throughout the summer."

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney MHK said: "This annual season is another showcase for the talent we have on the Isle of Man.  Not only do these groups and individuals give fantastic live performances, they are promoting our strong Manx tradition and culture."

The concerts start at 8pm and admission is free.  For further information contact the Isle of Man Arts Council on 694598 or email iomartscouncil@dtl.gov.im
