Vetting scheme re-think welcomed

by isleofman.com 2nd July 2010

A victory for common sense.

That’s how a Rushen MHK has described moves by the UK government to stop a vetting and barring scheme and redesign it.

Labour had planned to introduce the scheme for nine million people working with children and vulnerable adults in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

However, the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition has halted that move amid concerns such a move would not have caught some of Britain’s most notorious offenders and would wrongly bar innocent adults.

Quintin Gill, who raised the issue in the House of Keys this week, is delighted the Island will follow a similar path.
