by isleofman.com 30th June 2010

THIS year’s Isle of Man Queenie Festival takes place over three days from July 9th to 11th and is one of the summer’s highlights, both for visitors and locals.

The second annual festival is centred around Port Erin and Port St Mary, starting with the Sure ‘Love your Beach Party’ in Port Erin on Friday 9th.

Activities include beach volleyball, flipper football, sailing, kayaking, a seafood BBQ, stalls, live music, competitions and giveaways and a fancy dress competition celebrating the Manx queenie and the Isle of Man’s marine life.

The festival sets up camp in Port St Mary over the weekend 10th and 11th on the  quay in Port St Mary at Paddy’s Market with its ‘Marine Weekend’. The weekend is being run in con junction with the Manx Wildlife Trust.

On Saturday 10th July, adventurous swimmers will be taking to the waters off Port St Mary to tackle the ‘Manx Mile’ challenge. Sponsoring the event is Viking Office Systems. In the evening will be ‘The Herring Dance’ from 8pm to midnight with a licensed bar and live music at The Stone Field, Port St Mary. Tickets are £10 from Paddy’s Market, Port St Mary or 7th Wave, Port Erin.

There will be live music, plenty of queenie dishes, sea sports, seafood BBQ, street entertainers, marine touch tanks farmers’ market, cookery displays, talks and lectures, demonstrations, boat trips plus much, much more, so block out the dates in your diaries and head south for a great action packed weekend.
