POLICE are reminding football fans not to drink and drive as supporters look forward to the World Cup showdown between England and Germany on Sunday.
It is clear the message from the Isle of Man Constabulary has not been getting across to everyone.
A campaign was launched at the beginning of the World Cup on June 11 and since then 35 vehicles have been stopped and six people arrested - including one person who was arrested twice in 24 hours.
Inspector Mark Britton said: "He is being taken through the criminal justice system to court now and is currently on bail.
"Given these levels people are not listening to the message - the costs of drinking and driving are considerable.
"Getting caught is not worth it - don't end your World Cup early. Enjoy the game but don't get a penalty for drink driving."
The police's roads policing unit in conjunction with the Department of Infrastructure is aiming to get the message across that the effects of alchol last long after the last drink.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK said: "Let's all enjoy the World Cup and give drink-driving the boot by planning your return journey before you leave home so that you are not tempted to drink and drive.
"We all want to have a good time cheering on our favourite team, but the advice to motorists is, if you are going to drink leave your car at home."
England play Germany at 3pm on Sunday.
