'Minimal' extra cost for delayed control tower, says minister

The new air traffic control tower at Ronaldsway is not costing the taxpayer as it waits to be commissioned, according to infrastructure minister Phil Gawne.

It was supposed to be in operation by early May but the volcanic ash cloud which caused havoc in British airspace delayed its inauguration.

The UK-based team which were supposed to be bringing the tower online had their travel plans disrupted by the ash and seem to have been unable to reschedule their visit since.

Mr Gawne says any costs of the building being idle will be minimal:
