Brown critical of Chief Minister Bill

Proposed legislation to have a publicly-elected chief minister needs to be more robust to control a leader with a strong public mandate.

So says Castletown MHK, and current chief minister Tony Brown.

A bill to introduce direct public election passed its second reading by the narrowest of margins after a stormy debate in the House of Keys yesterday.

Mr Brown, who spoke out against the bill, says a publicly-elected leader would need to be restrained:
