Chief Minister Bill passes second reading

The public election of a chief minister crept a little closer to reality yesterday.

Nearly three hours of debate saw the House of Keys pass the Election of the Chief Minister Bill at its second reading.

The chief minister is currently selected by Tynwald and the proposed legislation received some stiff opposition.

Speaking after the vote, South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey, who brought the bill forward, says he expected the opposition but wants to work with all MHKs:
