LLOYDS TSB has teamed up with the Isle of Man Amateur Gymnastics Association in their aim to provide essential training and support for children on the Isle of Man with the ABCD training initiative in the sport of gymnastics.
The initiative focuses on four key areas – agility, balance, co-ordination and discipline – which are designed to not only aid young gymnasts in learning how to compete to a high standard, but also to develop valuable life-skills that will benefit them both inside and outside of the gym.
The sponsorship from Lloyds TSB has enabled the Gymnastics Association to fund development of coaches to a high standard and thus position them to coach the ABCD disciplines and mindset in gymnasts, greatly enhancing their opportunities. The funding has also assisted in encouraging and supporting after school sessions which will potentially lead to the formation of new clubs, particularly outside Douglas.
Jo Wright, Senior Manager, Personal Banking for Lloyds TSB Isle of Man, said, “By sponsoring the local Gymnastics Association, Lloyds TSB is helping young people realise their potential as athletes and individuals. Organisations like this are vital to the community and we are happy to support their great work. Who knows, we may see a few Olympic competitors from the Isle of Man in years to come.”
The Isle of Man Amateur Gymnastics Association has been running for around 20 years and is the governing body of the sport of gymnastics in the Isle of Man, covering over 800 members from the various clubs on the Island.
The Isle of Man is designated as a Home Nation with County status within British Gymnastics and through the work of the Association and the various club coaches and officials from all the clubs on the Island, have received “Community Key Sport” status from Isle of Man Sports Council. The Association prides itself on nurturing gymnastic ability to a high standard and Lloyds TSB is proud to support this goal.
Janet Donnelly, the PR Officer of the Isle of Man Amateur Gymnastics Association added, “The contribution from Lloyds TSB has enabled us to deliver valuable support and training to children of all ages and abilities, and has allowed our top gymnasts to develop skills to compete in higher level competitions off Island.
“We operate in a highly disciplined environment which encourages respect for coaches and fellow competitors; characteristics which allow gymnasts to progress both within gymnastics and in their day-to-day lives. The health and well-being of the children is also of paramount importance and the training that the children undertake ensures that they remain fit and healthy.”
