Family Fun Day at The Grove on Sunday

by isleofman.com 25th June 2010
THE Grove Museum in Ramsey will host a Family Fun Day this weekend, on Sunday (June 27th).

Throughout the day, a variety of traditional activities will take place including garden games such as quoits and croquet. Children’s races will be run on the lawn and there will be traditional toys such as the doll’s house.

There will be a chance to try some arts and crafts and children will have the opportunity to make fans and lavender bags and there will also be colouring stations.

The adults will be able to try their hand at watercolour painting with the theme of a Victorian Garden. There will be a display of vintage vehicles courtesy of the Isle of Man Classic Car Club and Ramsey Town Band will perform live at 2pm. Plus The Manx Folk Dance society will be spinning in the grounds in the afternoon.

The Isle of Man Farmers’ Market will be in attendance with a Victorian theme selling fresh seasonal Manx produce. It is their annual market for charity and the good cause this year is the Isle of Man adoption society. Refreshments including homemade cakes, scones and tea will be available in The Grove Conservatory Restaurant.

Matthew Richardson, Curator for Social History at Manx National Heritage said, “Traditionally, the garden party was one of the highlights of the Victorian and Edwardian summer social calendar.  We have tried  to capture some of that  unique atmosphere with our Family Fun day at The Grove this summer.

“We hope that visitors will enjoy the many attractions and activities that it has to offer, and also take the opportunity to enjoy a day out in historic Ramsey”.

The Grove is situated on the A9 Andreas Road on the outskirts of Ramsey and ample free parking is available for the day.  Bowring Road is undergoing major repairs at present, so drivers are advised to avoid using it to reach the Grove Museum and to arrive from a northerly direction if possible, via either Andreas or the North Ramsey Promenade.

The event will take place between 10am and 4.30pm.  Entry for adults is ?2, with no concessions. All children get in for free!
