DODGY car dealers and low standard motor repair companies will be deliberately excluded from a new scheme introduced today (Thursday) by the Office of Fair Trading.
The scheme is designed to give the public clear guidelines as to which car dealers and garages are up to scratch and, more importantly, those that are not.
The OFT says that the areas of second hand car sales and vehicle servicing and repair are currently the third most complained about by consumers. “The scheme has been introduced to help overcome these problems,” says an OFT statement.
“The Good Trader Scheme aims to protect the residents of the Isle of Man from unscrupulous traders and support local legitimate businesses which produce good quality work and in the process improve customer service.”
The OFT scheme will put consumers in touch with approved traders who have agreed to provide a trustworthy, high standard of customer service. Checks have been carried out on these traders and an agreed process put in place for dealing with customer complaints.
The first members of the scheme are:-
Athol Garage (1945)Limited
Auto Solutions Limited
Barry Curran Motors Limited
Haydn Minay Limited
Manx Automobile Assistance Limited
Mike Hewison Auto Engineers Limited
Ocean Ford
Vondys Garage Limited
Further motor traders are in the process of joining the scheme. Those which fail to meet the required standards will be excluded.
Current members attended the launch of the scheme at the OFT yesterday (Thursday) where they were presented with their Good Trader membership certificates and packs by the chairman of the OFT Mr Bill Henderson MHK and Members of the Board.
Members of the scheme can be identified by the Good Trader Scheme logo as shown above at their premises and on their documentation.
