Oxjam raises ?1,400 to help the fight against poverty

by isleofman.com 21st June 2010

THE Oxjam extravaganza at the Cat With No Tail pub raised ?1,400 for Oxfam.

The event in Governor's Hill, on Friday night, may have had to compete with England's World Cup match but there was only one winner and it wasn't the football.

It was the fifth Oxjam event in the Island and the money raised will aim to help the fight to overcome poverty in developing countries.

Blue John and Papa Cass, 'Mr Rock and Roll' Ray Sloane, The Hunters and The Heights all performed and there was also a raffle with a range of prizes.

Last year's event, which was also held at the Cat With No Tail, raised ?800.

Sue Burnham, manager of the Oxfam shop in Castle Street, Douglas, organised Oxjam along with Oxfam volunteer Tony Howell, known as Flash, who plays guitar in The Hunters.
