Final call for sailors to take part in Moore Stephens Douglas Regatta

by isleofman.com 18th June 2010

It is not too late to enter the Douglas Regatta which will be held next weekend.

Drawing entries from around the Irish Sea, the regatta has been held since the 1880s and is sponsored for a second year by Moore Stephens Isle of Man.

This year’s event will be on Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27 and will be staged by Douglas Bay Yacht Club. It will support the local charity Sailing for the Disabled.

Sailor, circumnavigator and member of the Moore Stephens Yachting team Bransom Bean said: "We already have a strong racing lineup but are eager to encourage more contenders to take part as we celebrate 130 years of the event.

"If you’re a keen racer, cruiser or interested spectator, we invite all to enjoy this special event."

Racing begins on Saturday at 2pm and there are two back-to-back races on Sunday starting at 10am.  All three races count towards the overall result with £100 prize money for the winning yacht and trophies for each of the top three.

Entertainment includes a BBQ on the Saturday night with a buffet and prize-giving on the Sunday afternoon at the clubhouse after the racing followed by fundraising and a prize raffle which will also be held by Moore Stephens Isle of Man on behalf of Sailing for the Disabled.

Further details are on the Douglas Bay Yacht Club website at: http://www.douglasbayyachtclub.com/regatta10.htm  including notice of race, entry forms and sailing instructions.
