An Island accountant who found himself in the line of fire on Bloody Sunday has been telling of his experience on the day 13 people were killed by British soldiers.
Eammon Harkin was just 16 when he joined the civil rights march through Derry that ended in bloodshed, which this week’s Saville report says was caused by British troops.
He recalls how people in the demonstration knew the march was illegal, but were peaceful and unarmed when the army opened fire.
Mr Harkin hopes the report closes a dark chapter in the history of the troubles in Northern Ireland.
He told Manx Radio when the first shots rang out, he fled and leapt behind a wall to take cover – only finding out later how close he came to being hit.
