Date set for autumn careers exhibition

by isleofman.com 17th June 2010
A NOVEMBER date has been set for the Employment and Skills exhibition which offers career and training opportunities to Isle of Man students and other potential employees.

It will take place at the Villa Marina in Douglas on Thursday November 25th and is hosted jointly by the Department of Education and Children and the Department of Economic Development. Applications are now invited for stands at the event, which is free to attend.

Employment and Skills 2010 follows on from the highly successful Careers 2010 exhibition, staged by the two departments at the Villa Marina in March.

Following the restructuring of the Isle of Man Government, responsibility for careers now falls under the remit of the Department of Economic Development and – following feedback from numerous sources – the event will now have a greater emphasis on recruitment and the needs of individuals not in full-time employment and those looking to make a change in employment.

Schools will still be involved, as in the past, and all five secondary schools, together with the Isle of Man College, will give students the opportunity to visit the exhibition and gain valuable information in order to make wise career choices.

The exhibition will be open from 9am to 8pm but will be closed for an hour between 3.30pm and 4.30pm in order to allow a break for exhibitors. The exhibitors will be required to set up stands between 12 noon and 6pm on Wednesday November 24th.

The application form can be downloaded at www.gov.im/lib/news/education/applynowforastan.xml which can be returned to MeShell Berry by the closing date of 20th August. For further information, please contact MeShell Berry on 01624 693830 or email her at cpdbookings@doe.sch.im
