Coroner hears evidence on deaths of road racers

by isleofman.com 17th June 2010

Inquests on two TT competitors have been opened and adjourned.

Austrian Martin Loicht and New Zealander Paul Dobbs were killed in separate accidents in the Supersport Race 2, last Thursday (June 10).

Evidence showed Mr Loicht was taken to Noble's Hospital by air ambulance, after crashing at Quarry Bends.

He suffered serious chest injuries and underwent emergency resuscitation on arrival at the hospital.

Mr Loicht was then rushed into theatre for surgery, but passed away on the operating table.

The inquest into Mr Dobbs' death heard he received serious head injuries in an accident at Ballagarey corner and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner Alastair Montgomerie said Mr Dobbs had an obvious love of the Isle of Man TT, to the extent he had named one of his daughters Hillberry.

He said it was a terrible tragedy the Island would become his final resting place.

Mr Dobb's funeral will be held on Monday (June 21), with a service in the pit lane at the TT grandstand, followed by a lap of the mountain circuit.

His widow, Bridget Dobbs, wants as many motorcycles as possible to escort Mr Dobbs on his final lap.
