'Prop wash' and water jets blamed for pier hole

Repairs to a large hole under the Victoria Pier in Douglas will begin soon, and it's likely to be an expensive job.

A void under the huge stone structure was discovered during scheduled inspections by Department of Infrastructure divers, during TT fortnight.

The gap is thought to have been caused by 'prop-wash' from the Ben-my-Chree and the water jets of the Steam Packet's fast craft.

Director of Harbours Captain Mike Brew says it's a big job, but it will be done 'in house':
