Swearing-in of new MHK

by isleofman.com 15th June 2010

There will be a new face in Tynwald from today (Tuesday).

Chris Robertshaw will take his seat sit in the chamber for the first time since winning the by-election in East Douglas at the end of last month.

He will be sworn in at a special ceremony in the House of Keys, adding his signature to those collected in the Island's Book of Oaths since 1580.

Jason Roberts reports.

The swearing-in ceremony takes place at 9.20am, just over an hour before Tynwald sits.

In front of the rest of the House, Mr Robertshaw will take two oaths before the First Deemster.

In one, he will pledge his allegiance to the Queen, while the second will see him promise to carry out his duties as MHK without fear or favour, and to do no wrong to any man.

The House of Keys will then rise before the Tynwald sitting, which starts at 10.30am and will be broadcast live on Manx Radio's AM 1368 frequency.
