by isleofman.com 11th June 2010

There will be be all the fun of the fair at Castletown this weekend.

The town's Picnic in the Park and Sports Day takes place at Poulsom Park, from 1pm on Sunday, and families are being invited to take a picnic or barbecue along to the event.

Among many stalls and attractions, children will be able to ride around the park on the special train 'Tootie the Tank Engine' and take pony rides.

There will be refreshments, a farmers' market, 'bargain hunt' and the usual range of general stalls, face painting, plate smashing, a coconut shy and bouncy castles.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the Manx Saxaphone Ensemble, the Manx Jazz Aces and Red Gap.

The Castletown Festival Queen contest will be held, for girls aged 12 to 18 (inclusive), living in Castletown and Derbyhaven. Anybody interested just has to show up at the stage at 2pm, although the winner won't be crowned until Festival Day, on Saturday, August 7.

Sunday's Picnic in the Park also includes the usual Sports Day programme and the annual Frog Frolic, in aid of the Manx Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital. The 'grand launch' of frogs will be at 4.15pm.
