Fireworks display tonight in Douglas

by isleofman.com 11th June 2010
THE TT Fireworks display takes place this evening (Friday) in Douglas Bay, bringing TT2010 to a spectacular finale. It is scheduled to begin at 11pm.

Tidal conditions play a large part in deciding the date for the annual display, estimated to cost around ?30,000. However, it’s believed to be the first time the display will have been held on Senior Race Day.

The spectacular show is always one of the highlights of the entertainment at the TT Festival, attracting thousands of spectators to Douglas Promenade and the surrounding areas such as Douglas Head and Onchan Head for the best vantage points.

The fireworks display is also the inspiration for a number of private parties and corporate hospitality events and is likely to be especially popular this year as it falls on the Island’s traditional Senior Race Day bank holiday.

Earlier in the evening, scheduled for 7.30pm, will be another chance to see the Hawker Hunter aerobatics display team, also over Douglas Bay. “TT on the Prom” entertainment starts from the 7.50pm and includes a joint display by the Purple Helmets and their inspiration - the White Helmets. The funfair runs until 11.30pm.

Police advise arriving in good time for the start of the display, as parking can be very limited around the promenade area.
