7th JUNE 2010

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill has now cost BP a staggering $1.25 billion and is expected to keep rising for many months to come.

Barclays was down 3p to 286p after being downgraded. The banking sector was knocked in early trading by concerns that a banking levy would be introduced in the Budget on 22 June .
