Police warning to residents after burglars steal cash

by isleofman.com 7th June 2010
POLICE are warning residents to keep their properties secure - even when you’re at home - following a burglary in a busy residential area of Douglas.

Thieves broke in through a rear first floor window of a property in Woodbourne Road, Douglas between 11pm on Mad Sunday and 1.30am on Monday morning and stole an undisclosed quantity of cash.

The incident has led police to advise residents all over the Island that their properties need to be secure at all times “including when they are occupied.”

The advice comes just only a few weeks after Chief Constable Mike Langdon said that many crimes, such as burglary, were preventable. “The main challenge is making people more aware of opportunistic crime, such as leaving cars unlocked and leaving windows and doors open in their homes.

“Many crimes are preventable and it only needs people to be more aware of not creating the opportunity for crime to take place.”

Meanwhile, police are asking for information from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Woodbourne Road area of Douglas around the time of the burglary.

The police can be contacted on 631212 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
