JOEY Dunlop and Mike Hailwood fans will have the chance to bid for a rare framed collection of phonecard contact sheets featuring the two Isle of Man TT legends.
Manx Telecom has donated two sets of framed phonecard proofs to the Joey Dunlop Foundation. Both sets feature contact sheets which were used to print phonecards. One set, which was used to print the ?3 phonecard in the C34 series in 1996, will go on display at Joey Dunlop House in Braddan and features images of Ballymoney’s most famous son racing in 1995.
The other set will be auctioned to raise money for the Joey Dunlop Foundation and features images of Joey with the TT Formula 1 Trophy and Mike Hailwood with the Senior 500cc TT Trophy. The contact sheets in this framed collection were used to produce the C49 phonecard series in 1999.
As well as being of interest to TT fans the set which will be auctioned is also expected to attract interest from the growing number of fusilatilists or phonecard collectors.
Kevin Quirk, Chairman of the Joey Dunlop Foundation, thanked Manx Telecom for its donation of the phonecard displays. “We will auction the Joey Dunlop and Mike Hailwood phonecard display at our annual fundraising dinner in November,” he said.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of interest in bidding for such a special item and we are very grateful to Manx Telecom for donating it to the foundation.”
Joey Dunlop’s widow Linda opened Joey Dunlop House on June 6th. It was well attended by TT fans and by TT legend John McGuinness who was one of Joey’s former team mates.
