'Morcambe Missile' favourite for first race of TT 2010

by isleofman.com 5th June 2010

When the riders line up for the Superbike race at high noon today (Saturday), 15-time TT winner John McGuinness will still be the man to beat on the big machines.

However, should the 'Morecambe Missile' have an off-day there are a number of riders waiting to take advantage and steal his crown.

Yorkshireman Ian Hutchinson had an outstanding practice week, topping the standings on four of the five nights and cracking the 130mph barrier three times.

Two of those three efforts came in last night's final session, when he also unofficially broke the lap record for today's race.

A number of other riders are also in contention, including 'Flying Kiwi' Bruce Anstey, who on his day can beat anyone; his Relentless Suzuki team mate Cameron Donald; Guy Martin; Keith Amor and the great Manx hope, 'Ramsey Rocket' Conor Cummins.

Meanwhile, it's hard to look beyond Manxman Dave Molyneux for this afternoon's Sidecar 1 race after he dominated the practice sessions.

Roads around the TT course are scheduled to close at 11am, with the mountain section half an hour earlier and the six lap PokerStars Superbike race due to start at 12 noon.

The three lap Sure Sidecar TT Race 1 is scheduled for 3pm, and there is full commentary on both races on Manx Radio TT (AM 1368).
