Rider dies after Mountain Box accident

A VISITING rider has been killed in a crash at the marshals’ hut at the Mountain Box this morning.

A 29 year old male from England, who has not yet been named, died after losing control of his Honda Fireblade motorcycle as he negotiated the first of the series of left hand bends.

The bike left the road and came to rest in the fields below. The Mountain Road has been operating in a one-way system all week and the road was closed for several hours this morning as a result of the accident.

Police say the incident happened at between 7.50 am and 8.18 am. It is not know at this time if any further vehicles were also involved.
 
The Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the motorcycle (coloured red white and blue) prior to the collision.  Anyone with information is requested to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 631212.
