SIR MIles Walker has taken over as the new chairman of Isle of Man Hospice, succeeding John Quinn.
The former Chief Minister of the Island, Sir Miles takes over with effect from the Hospice annual general meeting which takes place in just under two weeks’ time on June 16th.
John Quinn has stepped down as chairman after nine years in the post, overseeing the most important period in the history of Isle of Man Hospice, including the building of the new premises alongside Noble’s Hospital.
He will remain involved as a member of the Board of Governors.
Chief Executive Margaret Simpson thanked John for all his support and guidance over the years on behalf of the Board of Governors, staff and volunteers at Hospice.
She said, “John has been a tremendous leader for Hospice. His tenacity and calm approach to every situation will be missed. We are hopeful he will continue to be a passionate supporter of Hospice in a voluntary capacity, as he has been as our chairman”.
Sir Miles Walker joined the Board of Governors in March 2010. Well known on the Island and in Hospice, he was heavily involved in the highly successful Mighty Oak appeal.
Sir Miles said, “On a personal note I am sorry that John has decided to retire from the chair of Hospice. His enthusiasm and attention to detail have brought the organisation a long way during the last nine years.
“However I am delighted to join the Board of Hospice and I look forward to the various challenges as chairman. Hospice is a tremendously important charity in our Island and gives wonderful support to so many families during their time of need.
“Mary and I enjoyed our involvement during The Mighty Oak Appeal and I am looking forward to working with so many people throughout the Island who support and love the organisation.”
