Roadside signs must be removed "without delay"

by isleofman.com 2nd June 2010
THE ugly mixture of signs alongside Peel Road in Douglas on the Hills Meadow industrial estate must be removed immediately, according to government.

A number of complaints have been received from the public regarding the numerous signs which have been erected over the years without permission from the Department of Infrastructure.

The situation has now reached a point where the Department intends to intervene and all the signs will be removed “without delay”, to be replaced at some point with “appropriate” signage at the two Hills Meadow road entrances.

“The Department is committed to improving the appearance of the area around the entrances to Hills Meadow,” said Tim Crookall MHK, Member for the Properties Division. “Therefore we will be arranging for the removal of all unauthorised signage on the bank. We will be contacting the companies who have erected the signs requesting that these be removed without delay.”

He said it needed to be made clear that the bank of land which lies between the two entrances to the Hills Meadow Industrial Estate in Douglas from Peel Road is the property of the Department of Infrastructure.

He added, “We appreciate the importance of clear directional signage and will be investigating the possibility of erecting signs of an appropriate standard at the entrances indicating the companies located in the Industrial Estate.

“We will be talking with the interested companies about putting the new and more appropriate signage up at both entrances.”
