Blind trusts threaten Manx democracy - claim

Blind trusts are a "threat to democracy" in the Isle of Man, according to a prominent financial figure here.

Speaking on Manx Radio's Sunday Opinion today, Bob Riding said groups like the Manx Election Trust, which backed Kevin Woodford's failed Douglas East by-election bid, are a dangerous concept.

Such organisations are being looked into by the Council of Ministers' Governance Committee as a "matter of urgency", at the behest of the chief minister.

Mr Riding says he doesn't have a problem with candidates being backed, but them being backed anonymously is a whole different kettle of fish:
