by isleofman.com 29th May 2010

The TT's oldest competitor has died.

Jackie McCredie was born in 1908 and died in Edinburgh on Tuesday, at the age of 102.

His funeral takes place next week.

Manx Radio's sports editor Tim Glover reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

Jackie first competed on his Excelsior motorcycle in 1939, and finished 13th out of the 26 competitors.

Throughout his TT career, he stuck to his beloved Excelsior, which is now in a museum in England, with two of his trophies.

When the TT resumed after the war, he came straight back to the Island to compete, but didn’t manage to finish the race.

A year later in 1948, he came sixth in the TT48 Lightweight and competed in a further four TTs before retiring from racing in 1953.
