Election shouldn't have gone ahead - Cretney

by isleofman.com 27th May 2010

A long-serving member of the House of Keys and government minister believes today's Douglas East by-election should have been postponed.

South Douglas MHK David Cretney says it should have been put on hold until the conclusion of a police investigation into proxy voting.

Charles Lewin, campaign manager for candidate Kevin Woodford, was questioned throughout yesterday and released on bail last night, after police raided his campaign office.

Four other members of his team were also questioned and bailed.

Mr Woodford also believes the poll should have been postponed because the events of the past few days mean the election is unfair.

Mr Cretney says the whole situation is far from ideal (play audio file):

The other candidates in today's election are: Kate Beecroft, Colin Cain, Jon Joughin, Chris Heath and Chris Robertshaw.
