THE annual Dolphin Trophy Swimming Galas took place on Wednesday at the NSC featuring 32 schools in galas for small, medium and large schools.
In the small schools’ section, the winner was Ballaugh School with 90 points. Swimming for Ballaugh were James Cowin, Alex Whitfield, Tom Foulis, Hannah Radcliffe, Isla Curphey, Ruth Hewings and Andrew MacLeod.
Second in the small schools’ section with 87 points was Dhoon School and taking part were Jake Moore, Jessica Hill, Alex Foster, Amy Cowley, Joseph Newman, Genny Mackenzie-Hammond, William Greenbank, Emma Vondy and Ashlea Murat.
Ballasalla School took the honours in the medium schools’ section with a team comprising George Dalton-Brown, Georgina Thompson, Matthew Roosen, Rebecca Storrie, Aiden Hawker, Grace Guthrie, Ben Cregeen, Anna Clarke-Smith, Robert Jones, Anya Watterson, Keiran Thompson and Susannah McGrath. They scored 88 points.
In second place, seven points behind, was Arbory School. Swimming for Arbory were Josh Hewett, Leah Barnes, Rory Neale, Jaimee Spits, Elliott Callow, Lucy Allen, Joseph Glover, Ella Clague, George Oates, Rachel Walton, Cameron Ledingham and Lauren Wright.
In a reversal of last year’s 1-2, a points tally of 83 saw the Buchan School team secure a win over Scoill Vallajeelt in the first of the large schools’ contests. The Buchan team was made up of Cameron Wheeler, Pippa Slater, Ben Kebbell, Sarah Bucknall, Fflinlo Wright, Karie Bridson, Jacob Hempsall, Reya Govender, Chris Raatgever, Erin Murphy, Eoghain Sherrard and Jessica Smallwood.
Scoill Vallajeelt’s 75 points came thanks to swimmers Cameron Findlay, Lucy Callow, Adam Crossley, Victoria Watson, Sebastian Murphy, Cara Bregazzi, Matthew Kneale, Alexandra Burns, Cameron Scott, Ceri Maddox, Connor Duggua and Lauren Kerruish.
In the second of the large schools’ galas, Scoill Ree Gorree held on to the trophy, winning convincingly with 108 points. The team was made up of Jonathan Mason, Frankie Greenwood, Jamie Corlett, Nicole Pressley, Joshua Corteen, Kirsten Vickery, Conall Jaques, Amy Bell, Sam Walker, Catreena Crowe, Ramsey Ball and Amy Carswell.
Second with 73 points was Peel Clothworkers’ School and its team of Euan MacMurchie, Abbie Lloyd, Max Crookall, Ruth Wathan, Rory Lewis, Anna Dawson, George Fisher, Caitlyn Quilliam, Jamie Lord, Breeshey Crookall, Matthew Cover and Amy Crellin.
All the swimmers who took part will receive certificates.
Ballacottier School pupils Rachel Deighton, 11, and Connie Watson, 10, presented Mrs Stratford-Parson with flowers to thank her for presenting the trophies.
The Department’s thanks go to the young swimmers and their teachers for their high standard of competition and to officials from the Isle of Man Swimming Association for their efficient running of the event as well as to the many individuals who helped on the day. Thanks also go to the NSC staff and management and Bus Vannin and Protours.
Minister for Education and Children Eddie Teare MHK and newly retired Jurby School headteacher Carol Stratford-Parson, who officiated at the event for many years, presented the trophies to the first and second-placed teams.
