Tynwald members "the only people not hit by the recession"

by isleofman.com 27th May 2010

POLITICIANS are the only people in the Isle of Man who are not feeling the financial effects of the economic recession.

That is the view of Trades Union Council president Angela Moffatt who believes that members of Tynwald now require a public review of their pay packages.

The TUC says that any future or pending pay reviews for Tynwald members should be made public and open to scrutiny and comment.

The announcement comes only days after the coalition Government in the UK revealed a 5% voluntary pay cut.

TUC President Angela Moffatt has accused Tynwald members of  of being the only group of people on the Island who have thus far avoided feeling the pinch financially.

She said, "It's the TUC's aim to have the right to determine what wages they receive taken away from the politicians and handed over to an independent body, which can take into consideration the feedback from the public."
