Road users told 'don't stop on tram crossings'

Motorists are being urged to take extra care crossing tram lines on the Isle of Man.

The warning comes after a tram from Laxey hit a car which had apparently stopped on the tracks as it left the car park at Skandia's offices in King Edward Road, Onchan.

No one was hurt in the accident but the car had to be lifted off the tracks and the tram passengers transferred to a bus.

Director of Public Transport Ian Longworth says drivers must never stop in the yellow 'hatchings' painted on the road at level crossings.

He says accidents are fairly rare but motorists must remain vigilant:
