Tram driver couldn't stop in time

A Manx Electric Railway tram has been involved in a collision with a car, close to Port Jack in King Edward Road, Onchan.

It was heading towards Douglas when it hit a red Jaguar as the car crossed the tram lines, while pulling out of the Skandia office complex.

The car was badly damaged and the tram was left with buckled panels.

Police moved the car from the tracks, while passengers finished their journey into Douglas by bus.

The tram was taken to the Manx Electricy Railway depot for repairs.

Director of Public Transport Ian Longworth says the tram driver put on the brakes but couldn't stop in time:
