Minister encouraged by UK response on Health Agreement

HEALTH Minister David Anderson says he is encouraged by the positive response he has received from the new Secretary of State Andrew Lansley to discussing the Isle of Man’s Reciprocal Health Agreement.

Mr Lansley has written to Mr Anderson stating that the UK agreement with the Isle of Man was “something that we clearly need to address ahead of the end of September and I look forward to working with the Isle of Man Government of this matter.”

Mr Lansley was responding to a letter from Mr Anderson in which he congratulated him on his appointment and highlighting the urgency of the Isle of Man’s Reciprocal Health Agreement.

Mr Anderson added, “I am extremely pleased to have received such a prompt and positive response which bodes well for the future relationship between the UK and Isle of Man Health Services.

“I sent a letter congratulating him on his appointment, as well as looking forward to working with him to reinforce the close links between the Manx and UK Health Services for the benefit of residents of both jurisdictions and strengthening our close relationships.

“I also mentioned that the preparation of a draft new Reciprocal Health Agreement is well advanced and suggested that we could usefully meet in due course to discuss areas of mutual interest including the Reciprocal Health Agreement.”
