An isolated rock on Douglas beach now has a name, and a Manx one at that!
The boulder has been named 'Cringle Rock' after veteran Manx journalist Terry Cringle.
He floated the idea after describing to readers of his newspaper column how he stood on the rock as a small boy and declared it his.
The challenge to have it named was taken up by his near namesake, President of Tynwald Noel Cringle.
A ceremony was held on the foreshore this afternoon (Saturday) and the fact around 100 people attended meant the naming was carried out by popular acclaim.
Terry had resisted an earlier attempt to go through with the ceremony but Noel Cringle said he finally gave in:
