There's a chance to witness a little piece of history being made at lunchtime today (Saturday).
A large rock on Douglas beach is being named in honour of a veteran Manx Radio broadcaster, in fulfillment of a boyhood dream.
The unusual distinction is being bestowed on Terry Cringle, in recognition of the service he has given to journalism on the Island.
It came about after he mentioned a large boulder, which he used to stand on as a child, in a local newspaper column.
Terry said he would claim it as 'Cringle's Rock', and challenged President of Tynwald Noel Cringle to obtain official recognition for the name.
Noel Cringle took up the challenge when he realised there was a precedent for naming parts of the Isle of Man after well-known people (play audio file):
The meeting point for the naming ceremony is outside the Hilton Hotel, at 1.15 for 1.30pm.
