First hung parliament for 36 years

'All to play for' is how an expert on constitutional matters in the Isle of Man is describing the position facing the United Kingdom, after yesterday's general election produced the first hung parliament since 1974.

There were big gains for the Conservatives in terms of the number of seats, but not enough to achieve the figure of 326 needed for an overall majority.

Former clerk of Tynwald Professor St John Bates says the battle to see which of the two main party leaders can form a government is not clear cut:
