'Brown's shop will be missed' - commissioner

The closure of Chief Minister Tony Brown's electrical and hardware shop in Castletown will mean local residents travelling further to buy basic goods for the home.

That's the view of the chairman of the town's commissioners Alwyn Collister, who says Mr Brown's decision to shut up shop came as a shock.

Mr Brown began the family business in Bank Street in 1981and moved to larger premises in Arbory Street in 1999. He says the closure is due to his lease on the shop ending next month.

Mr Collister says the shop has been well supportered by locals and will be missed:
