Mobile community centre hits the road

by isleofman.com 30th April 2010

A dream to connect communities across the Isle of Man becomes reality today (Friday).

The Age Concern CHAT bus is being officially unveiled to sponsors and supporters at the Hilton Hotel in Douglas.

A former Protours vehicle, the Community, Health, Advice and Training bus will take a range of services to some of the Island's most isolated communities.

James Davis reports (text, below, from attached audio file):

It began as a project between Age Concern and Isle of Man Newspapers and has been transformed into reality through funding and support, from local organisations and individuals, to the tune of £80,000.

It has full heating and air-conditioning, disabled access, LED lighting, a lounge area, kitchenette and a private meeting room/IT-suite, not to mention awning and outside seating.

From lunchtime, the converted bus will become a mobile community centre for elderly people in the Isle of Man.

The CHAT bus has well and truly landed.
