Hill could be given protected status

Anyone caught vandalising Tynwald Hill could end up going to prison for a year, face an unlimited fine, or both if proposed legislation is passed.

A consultation period on the 'Tynwald Hill Bill' has started, with the government looking for feedback from the public.

The bill would give the monument, the processional way and surrounding area special protected status, as well as formally declaring its historical and cultural importance to the Manx nation.

Chief Minister Tony Brown believes the safeguards currently in place are insufficient:
