Bethany hopes to overcome strained muscle

by isleofman.com 29th April 2010

Ultra athlete Bethany Clague is facing a potentially serious fitness problem, the day before the start of her attempt to run from John O'Groats to Land's End.

She strained a calf muscle in training and has hardly been able to walk for the last two weeks.

Bethany thought she wasn't going to be able to compete in the event and was going to crew the race instead, but she is now walking without pain and is hoping to line up with the other competitors at 6am tomorrow (Friday).

The 'End to End' event is the longest ultra race in the United Kingdom this year and spans some 869 miles.

The twelve competitors will attempt to run the distance over 15 consecutive days.

Bethany will be running in aid of three Island charities, Kemmyrk, Graih and Friends of Star Club, and aims to cover between 50 and 60 miles every 24 hours.

You can contact her via bethany@manxcat.org.uk if you would like to make a donation.
