Don't risk safety, warns union chief

by isleofman.com 29th April 2010

A union leader says cuts in public spending must not put at risk the safety of Manx workers employed in potentially dangerous locations.

Regional Industrial Organiser for Unite Steve Salter has spoken of his relief at the collapse of the case against a DOT worker, in connection with the death of a motorcyclist at road works.

63-year old Brian Tomlinson was charged with manslaughter by gross negligence over the death of the biker on the mountain road in 2007. On Friday his not guilty pela was accepted by the court.

Mr Tomlinson was responsible for placing warning signs to motorists around the works.

Steve Salter says any lessons from the tragic case, must be learned.
