A doomed love affair between a seamstress and one of Britain's greatest poets is the subject of the next feature from Films in Peel.
Bright Star (cert PG), which is showing tomorrow evening (Wednesday 28th April) at the Centenary Centre, is based on true events in the life of tragic poet John Keats.
In early Victorian London, an unlikely love sparks between Keats and girl next door Frances ('Fanny') Brawne. Despite their differences, an impassioned love affair develops, but unforgiving circumstances, and opposition from friends and family, combine to thwart the pair. Then Keats' fragile health takes a turn for the worse...
Bright Star, which met with widespread critical acclaim upon its release last year, was directed by Jane Campion, whose previous films include Oscar winner The Piano and An Angel at My Table.
The film stars Ben Whishaw as Keats, Abbie Cornish as Fanny and Kerry Fox as Mrs Brawne.
Doors open at 7.15pm and the screening starts at 7.45pm.
Tickets priced ?4 (?3 concession) are available from Celtic Gold (Peel), Shakti Man (Ramsey), Mostly Manx (Douglas), Peter Norris Music (Douglas) and Thompson Travel (Port Erin). If the film is not sold out, tickets will also be available on the door.
The next two 'Films in Peel' are the Coen Brothers' A Serious Man (2009, cert 15) on Wednesday 12th May and apocalyptic drama 2012 (2009, Cert 12A) on Wednesday 26th May.
