Narrow defeat for Isle of Man in Northern Ireland

by isleofman.com 22nd April 2010

There was disappointment for the Island's senior men's football team as they played their first match of the Umbro quadrangular tournament in Northern Ireland.

They were narrowly beaten 1-0 by a strong Republic of Ireland side, the goal coming in the last ten minutes.

The Island gave a good account of themselves in the international amateur event, and there was some consolation when midfielder Nick Hurt picked up the award for Man of the Match.

On Mandate today (Thursday), Manx Radio's football correspondent Tony Mepham told Howard Caine about the game (play audio file):

The Manx side play their second match against Scotland, with kick-off at 5.45pm today (Thursday).
