Church faces big bill, after being targeted by vandals

by isleofman.com 21st April 2010

Police are looking for vandals who allowed a large quantity of heating oil to drain from a tank at St Catherine's Church in Port Erin.

The incident happened sometime between 6.30pm on Sunday and 8am the following day.

A pipe was pulled from the tank at the rear of the church, allowing 750 litres of oil to pour out onto the grass.

Police are trying to identify a group of youths seen in the grounds of the church on Sunday evening.

Officers say the church will now have to pay for more oil and the incident is also potentially damaging to the environment.

Anyone with information is asked to ring Port Erin police on 832222.
